On October 8th, the Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting and Tourism shared some impressive highlights from this year’s National Day holiday. According to their report, the city welcomed an astounding 23.79 million visitors, leading to a total tourism revenue of 22.65 billion yuan. These numbers reflect year-on-year increases of 5.1% in visitors and 8.9% in revenue.

The data also showed that Chengdu hosted 287 inbound travel groups during the holiday—a remarkable 198.2% surge compared to last year. A-level tourist attractions in the city received 11.36 million visitors, marking a 9.5% rise.

Tourists were particularly drawn to Chengdu’s vibrant cultural scene, where “Exploring Chengdu through Exhibitions” gained widespread popularity. Museums attracted approximately 2.06 million attendees, providing a wealth of high-quality exhibitions and themed experiences. The Jinsha Site Museum stood out by hosting over a hundred events, including thematic exhibitions, science lectures, interactive experiences, and folk culture activities. They even introduced special nighttime tours dubbed “Night Tour of Jinsha: Journey through Ancient Shu,” which significantly boosted visitor numbers by over 25%, resulting in ticket sales and cultural product revenue exceeding 1.7 million yuan.

The Wuhou Shrine Museum also experienced a surge in popularity. It hosted 407 performances, drawing in 638,000 visitors. Sales of tickets and cultural products soared, with cultural product sales alone increasing by nearly 349%.

Outside the Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum, visitors gathered for daily poetry recitations. Thousands took part in the “Recite a Poem at the Cottage” challenge, which featured patriotic pieces such as “Song of the Thatched Cottage Ruined by Autumn Wind.”

In the lead-up to the National Day celebrations, the Chengdu Museum put on high-profile exhibitions like “Interwoven Gazes: French Academicians’ Art Exhibition” and “Boundless Grandeur: Xie Wuliang’s Artistic Journey.” Remarkably, all 20,000 tickets available each day were booked out around five days in advance. Meanwhile, the Chengdu Art Museum offered seven free art exhibitions alongside more than 60 diverse supporting activities throughout the holiday period.
