On September 16, the Chinese community in the UK came together in London to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. More than 700 guests attended the event, including notable figures such as Zheng Zeguang, the Chinese Ambassador to the UK; Zhu Xiaojiao, chairman of the organizing committee and president of the Chinese Lawyers Association; Deng Zhuting, chairman of the London Chinatown Chamber of Commerce; Fang Wenjian, president of the Chinese Business Chamber in the UK; as well as leaders from nearly 100 Chinese associations across the UK.

In his speech, Ambassador Zheng conveyed heartfelt holiday wishes to Chinese citizens residing in the UK. He addressed the extraordinary global challenges and transformative changes currently facing the world, underscoring China’s commitment to fostering a community with a shared future for humanity. Zheng articulated China’s advocacy for a multipolar political framework and inclusive economic globalization, firmly positioning the nation on the side of peace, justice, and historical accuracy. He expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with countries around the globe to pursue initiatives focused on development, security, and civilization. He emphasized the importance of advancing the Belt and Road Initiative to bring stability and positive energy into the world while urging mutual respect and cooperation between China and the UK. He called for both nations to uphold significant agreements made by their leaders and enhance their exchanges and collaborations.

Zheng also recognized the contributions of the overseas Chinese community in the UK, commending their resilience and accomplishments across diverse sectors. He acknowledged their support for China’s development, as well as their active involvement in the local community in the UK, which has earned them widespread respect and recognition. He encouraged attendees to continue fostering mutually beneficial cooperation between China and the UK while promoting friendship and Chinese culture.

Zhu Xiaojiao expressed pride in the remarkable achievements of New China since its inception, highlighting the strong connections that overseas Chinese maintain with their homeland. He conveyed the UK Chinese community’s eagerness to serve as a bridge between the two countries, aiming to strengthen the friendship between the peoples of China and the UK and to contribute to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The celebration was characterized by a vibrant and harmonious atmosphere, featuring a short film that showcased China’s accomplishments. Performances included traditional elements such as the “Anse Yao Drum,” Sichuan Opera’s “Face Changing,” as well as a dance called “Song of Spring” and the song “Lights of China,” all of which added to the festive spirit of the occasion.
