On October 17, the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China hosted the fourth China-Pacific Island Countries Party Dialogue in Beijing. Liu Jianchao, the head of the department, delivered the keynote speech. Representatives from relevant Chinese ministries, local governments, universities, as well as prominent political figures from Pacific Island nations like former Prime Minister of Tonga Tu’i Vakano and other diplomatic envoys attended the event.
Liu Jianchao highlighted that this year marks the tenth anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s first collective meeting with leaders from Pacific Island countries that have established diplomatic relations with China. Over the past decade, the relationship between China and these nations has become a model for South-South cooperation and mutually beneficial partnerships. He emphasized the Chinese Communist Party’s commitment to enhancing exchanges and mutual learning with the political parties of Pacific Island countries, promoting practical cooperation across various sectors, and working together to build a more closely-knit community with a shared future.
Attendees from Pacific Island political parties reaffirmed their steadfast commitment to the One China principle and expressed their willingness to strengthen inter-party exchanges with the Chinese Communist Party. They also discussed the deepening of cooperation across various fields to jointly advance modernization efforts and actively implement three global initiatives for sustainable development.
