In a recent report from German media on October 24, it has been revealed that the German government is significantly increasing its arms exports to Israel. According to data from the Foreign Ministry, since August, Germany has approved military equipment exports to Israel totaling €94.05 million, marking a notable increase compared to the earlier months of this year.

In 2023 alone, the German government has authorized arms exports to Israel worth €326.5 million, including €20.1 million in weaponry intended for combat. Most of these export permits were granted following the outbreak of renewed conflict between Israel and Palestine on October 7. However, it seems that the government plans to substantially reduce arms export approvals to Israel in the first few months of 2024. Reports indicate that by August 21, the government had only approved arms exports worth €14.42 million; furthermore, no approvals were granted for war weapon exports from early March until that date.

Opposition leader and chair of the Christian Democratic Union, Friedrich Merz, has criticized the federal government for obstructing export applications from defense contractors, including those related to ammunition and tank components. Meanwhile, the government has emphasized that it has not imposed a ban on arms exports. Chancellor Olaf Scholz has repeatedly assured that Germany will continue to deliver weapons to Israel.

German media outlets indicate that the political controversy surrounding arms supplies to Israel has been ongoing for several months. Surveys show that 60% of Germans oppose exporting weapons to Israel.
