On October 18, a symposium on promoting the spirit of educators and improving teacher ethics was held in Cixi, Zhejiang. This event also served as a working meeting for the Central Education Committee and Agricultural Committee of the Democratic League of China.
Key attendees included Xu Hui, member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and Vice Chairman of the Democratic League Central Committee; Xie Jingrong, also a member of the NPC’s Standing Committee and Vice Chairman of the Democratic League Central Committee; and Han Jinhong, Deputy Director of the Teacher Work Department of the Ministry of Education. Zhu Huamin, a member of the Cixi Municipal Committee of the Communist Party and Minister of the United Front Work Department, and Mao Weimin, full-time Deputy Chairman of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Democratic League, each delivered remarks.
Before the symposium, the unveiling ceremony for the “Xingzhi Memorial Hall” at Cixi Yucai Middle School took place, with Xu Hui and Xie Jingrong presenting a statue of Tao Xingzhi. The symposium, focusing on the spirit of educators, was hosted by Gao Yuhong, Minister of the Social Service Department of the Democratic League Central Committee, while the working meeting for the Education and Agricultural Committees was led by Yu Minhong, Chairman of the New Oriental Education & Technology Group.
In his keynote speech titled “On the Spirit of Educators,” Xu Hui highlighted that over the past 80 years of the Democratic League’s development, the organization has produced numerous prominent figures in education whose character and scholarship serve as exemplars, embodying the illustrious spirit of educators. These individuals have made remarkable contributions to China’s educational advancement and national revitalization, establishing a tradition of teacher ethics rooted in patriotism.
Han Jinhong delivered a report titled “Promoting the Spirit of Educators to Build a High-Quality Professional Teacher Team,” stressing that teachers must appreciate the noble mission of their profession, carry significant responsibilities, and embody ideals of devotion to the country. She emphasized the need for teachers to be moral role models, possess the wisdom to teach according to each student’s needs, maintain a fair attitude of diligent learning and innovative inquiry, and foster a heartfelt love for teaching and learning, embracing selflessness.
Yu Minhong’s keynote address addressed the essential qualities of a good teacher, asserting that excellent educators should possess strong character, teaching skills, and a commitment to lifelong learning. He outlined these as vital areas for teacher development.
Shen Hongbang, Deputy Chairman of the Democratic League Central Education Committee and Chairman of Cixi Yucai Middle School, presented a work report on “Promoting the Spirit of Educators and Upholding the First Principle of Teacher Ethics—Enhancing the Construction of a High-Quality Professional Teacher Team in the New Era.”
During the committee working meeting, Zhu Lijuan, Principal of Beijing Haidian District Peiying Primary School, shared insights, encouraging active discussion among attendees. In his closing remarks, Xie Jingrong urged committee members to inherit and promote the Democratic League’s fine tradition of addressing national issues and caring for people’s livelihoods. He encouraged them to align their efforts with the visionary blueprint outlined in the 20th Central Committee’s Third Plenary Session, enhancing the quality of their research and advocacy. Education and Agricultural Committees were encouraged to engage members proactively, focusing on challenges in their sectors and committing to impactful initiatives and meaningful proposals throughout their tenure.
This meeting was jointly hosted by the Democratic League Central Education Committee, Agricultural Committee, and the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Democratic League.
