In a recent interview, we discussed the findings of a two-year investigation by the Charity Commission into the youth charity Mermaids, which focuses on supporting transgender youth. The investigation revealed management issues arising from a period of rapid growth within the organization.

However, it’s worth noting that the regulator found no evidence supporting some of the other complaints against Mermaids, including allegations that it offered medical advice to minors.

In response to the investigation, Mermaids stated that it has made significant improvements to its governance structures since the inquiry began. They emphasized that the review concluded with “no evidence of misconduct,” highlighting their commitment to transparency and accountability moving forward.
