During a recent interview with insiders connected to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, it was revealed that Meghan is privately labeled as the “difficult duchess” by her staff, with reports suggesting that her demeanor can be intimidating and that she is often resistant to feedback.
On September 12, The Hollywood Reporter unveiled a list of former employees who had worked with the couple, including Josh Kettler, their chief of staff, who resigned after just three months. Kettler has since joined the growing ranks of what some are calling the “Sussex Survivors Club.”
A source familiar with the couple shared, “Everyone is afraid of Meghan. She belittles others and doesn’t take advice. Both of them are poor decision-makers who frequently change their minds.”
The insider added, “Harry is incredibly charismatic and doesn’t put on airs, but he often enables Meghan’s behavior, which is quite problematic.”
The Times reported in 2022 that during Meghan’s tenure at Kensington Palace, allegations emerged regarding her bullying, emotional manipulation, and humiliation of staff members. Reports indicated that two personal assistants were compelled to resign, and the couple’s then-communications secretary raised these issues with Simon Case, who was collaborating with Prince William at the time. This prompted Buckingham Palace to initiate an investigation. Although the findings were never publicly disclosed, a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan claimed it was a “calculated smear campaign.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, some of Meghan’s American staff have particularly negative views about her. She’s been described as prone to temper tantrums and known to send angry emails as early as 5 AM, earning her the internal moniker of “difficult duchess” well before it gained public traction. One source described her as “ruthless, like a dictator in high heels, shouting orders and leaving grown men in tears.”
These unflattering characterizations sharply contrast with Meghan’s long-standing image as a friendly and approachable individual. Harry and Meghan’s current spokesperson has chosen not to comment on these revelations.
