On October 8, a representative from CNOOC’s Tianjin branch announced the exciting news that the Bozhong 19-2 oilfield development project, situated in the central Bohai Sea, has officially commenced production.

The Bozhong 19-2 oilfield is notable for its average water depth of around 20 meters and is recognized as a substantial, high-quality field located above the Bozhong 19-6 sub-salt gas reservoir. This oilfield is particularly appealing due to a number of advantageous features, including its shallow burial depth, favorable oil characteristics, concentrated oil-bearing layers, excellent reservoir quality, high production capacity, extensive oil-bearing area, and significant reserves.

The primary production infrastructure for the Bozhong 19-2 project consists of a newly constructed central processing platform and four unmanned wellhead platforms. The development plan includes the drilling of a total of 59 wells, which will feature 34 production wells and 25 water injection wells. By 2025, peak production is expected to reach about 3,000 cubic meters of oil equivalent per day, with the oil classified as heavy crude.

To optimize the output from the oilfield, the project is utilizing existing production facilities by repurposing three platforms from the Bozhong 19-6 condensate gas field. Importantly, the Bozhong 19-2 Central Platform is interconnected with the Bozhong 19-6 gas field, creating a “five-star” oil and gas production network within the “oil field + gas field + shore power” model. This interconnected system is anticipated to become a vital hub for oil and gas operations in the central Bohai Sea.

As a pivotal initiative aimed at producing 40 million tons from the Bohai oil field, the Bozhong 19-2 development exemplifies standardized engineering practices and smart construction techniques. Currently, the project includes four operational development wells and four subsea pipelines, generating approximately 500 barrels of crude oil per day.
