On the evening of September 30, the Nanchang Poly Theatre in Honggutan District, Jiangxi Province, officially opened its doors with a highly anticipated event: a grand symphonic concert by the China Philharmonic Orchestra. The audience, a lively mix of locals and cultural enthusiasts, filled the hall with enthusiastic applause, setting the stage for a memorable night.
Nanchang, known for its deep historical roots and revolutionary culture, is now evolving into a vibrant modern city. With the stunning Jiulong Lake as its backdrop, the concert offered an enchanting experience that united the audience in the power of music and the cultural essence of the city.
Under the direction of the acclaimed conductor Yu Long, the performance featured soprano Wang Lida, pianist Kong Xiangdong, and the China Philharmonic Orchestra alongside the China Radio Chorus. They delivered emotionally resonant renditions of classical masterpieces, beautifully illustrating how culture and the arts can deeply connect us. The evening’s host, Zhou Tao, thanked the citizens of Nanchang, emphasizing, “Music brings us together and connects our hearts.”
This concert not only marked the grand opening of the Nanchang Poly Theatre but also kicked off its inaugural season. Over the next three months, the theatre will showcase 33 productions, featuring 55 outstanding performances across various genres, including ballet, drama, musicals, crosstalk, and traditional Chinese opera. With renowned groups like the Mariinsky Ballet and the China National Opera and Dance Drama Theater, as well as celebrated artists such as Zhang Guoli, Zhang Tielin, Wang Gang, Lv Siqing, and Lang Lang, the theatre aims to embody the vision of “Cultural Garden in Honggutan, Making the World Fall in Love with Nanchang,” ensuring that the arts become an integral part of every resident’s life.
In addition to the opening concert, the play “Duan Jin,” featuring prominent performances by Zhang Guoli, Zhang Tielin, and Wang Gang, will be staged at the Nanchang Poly Theatre from October 2 to 4. Each upcoming performance is set to enhance the cultural landscape of Nanchang, contributing to the city’s ongoing artistic narrative.
