On October 12th, the Wealth By Health Foundation held a free food distribution and vaccination event for flu and COVID-19 at the Los Angeles Buddhist Temple. This initiative comes as a response to a recent surge in COVID-19 infections and shortages in vaccine supply, providing essential support to community members in need. Even before the event started, long lines formed outside the temple, stretching down Garvey Avenue.

Kevin Yip, the founder of the Wealth By Health Foundation, emphasized the importance of vaccination in light of the rising infection numbers. “It is critical to protect yourself and your family,” he stated, urging the public to get vaccinated despite the current supply challenges. When asked whether individuals could receive both the flu and COVID vaccines simultaneously, Yip noted that health professionals from Western University of Health Sciences were present to assess each person’s health status. He cautioned that those with pre-existing conditions should approach vaccination with care. After receiving their vaccines, attendees were required to stay on site for monitoring to ensure there were no adverse reactions, and many opted to receive both vaccines during the event.

In addition to vaccine administration, attendees were also provided with various essential supplies, including fresh produce, pasta, canned goods, and non-perishable items. Many residents expressed gratitude for the support, especially in the face of economic pressures, as these free distributions helped alleviate their family burdens.

Since its inception, the Wealth By Health Foundation has actively engaged in community service. Beyond vaccination initiatives, the foundation regularly organizes free medical clinics covering specialties such as ophthalmology, dentistry, cardiology, family medicine, and podiatry, along with traditional Chinese medicine practices like cupping and acupuncture. Additionally, the foundation has established scholarships aimed at assisting students pursuing careers in healthcare and other professions, fostering the development of future community leaders.
