As the 7th China International Import Expo approaches, the Yangshan Port Maritime Bureau has taken proactive measures to ensure the safe LNG fueling operations for international large container vessels. On October 25, under the remote monitoring of the Yangshan Port Maritime Bureau and the on-site vigilance of patrol boats, the large container ship “Eagle City” successfully completed the fueling of over 8,000 cubic meters of LNG at the Phase IV automated terminal.
The “Eagle City” is the largest and most advanced vessel in the Tsinghua Shipping fleet, measuring an impressive 335 meters in length and 51 meters in width. It represents a key component of China’s independently developed “KUN Series” (KUN-14N) large container ships and incorporates the advanced GTT Mark III LNG containment system. Additionally, the vessel employs cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things to enhance operational management. The implementation of these technologies significantly boosts energy efficiency, reduces operational costs, and greatly decreases carbon emissions, aligning perfectly with international environmental standards.
To ensure the smooth execution of the fueling operation, the Yangshan Port Maritime Bureau collaborated with relevant departments to establish detailed safety protocols that address both dynamic and static aspects of operation safety.
On one hand, a designated “moving safety zone” was established around the vessel “Future Harbor,” extending one nautical mile in front, half a nautical mile behind, and 150 meters on each side. A tugboat was assigned for escort duties around the LNG fueling vessel, which is required to have a pilot on board throughout the operation. Once the fueling vessel arrived alongside the receiving ship, a “safety operation warning zone” was established, with remote monitoring and maritime patrol vessels in attendance to prevent approaching vessels from entering the area. Additionally, emergency response teams, including dual-purpose tugs, were deployed on-site to mitigate any unforeseen events like vessel drift or personnel injuries.
On the other hand, law enforcement personnel were scheduled in advance to inspect the “Future Harbor” vessel, its cargo, and the operational declarations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols. Key equipment and facilities involved in the fueling operation were also inspected to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.
In preparation for a successful 7th China International Import Expo, the Yangshan Port Maritime Bureau has reinforced maritime oversight, optimized service measures, and ensured robust waterway traffic support. Their proactive approach aims to eliminate major risks to water traffic safety and maintain a stable safety outlook and clean waterway environment.
