In an interview on October 25th, Xiang Hongliang, the president of Sanming Medical Technology Vocational College, emphasized the institution’s commitment to fostering student employment and supporting local economic growth. “As a regional vocational college, it is our duty and mission to facilitate students’ employment and provide talent and intellectual support for the development of the local economy,” he stated during a job fair for the class of 2025 organized by the college’s Engineering and Design Department.

Sanming, located in the central-northern part of Fujian, is at the heart of the former Soviet area in China. In recent years, Sanming Medical Technology Vocational College has broken through the barriers to development in mountainous regions by actively aligning educational programs with the needs of society and businesses. This alignment has resulted in a close integration of academic disciplines with local industry, leading to steady expansion of the college’s scale and a rapid increase in the quality of education and training, thus earning it the status of a demonstration vocational college in Fujian Province.

The Engineering and Design Department, which includes five research and teaching divisions focused on textiles, machinery, electromechanics, transportation, and art design, has successfully trained a large number of skilled technicians, managers, and entrepreneurs for industries both within and outside the province. Wang Yuwei, the department’s head of recruitment and industry partnerships, noted that “our department boasts a professional focus, achieving an employment rate of over 97%.”

To maximize the effectiveness of campus recruitment, the college’s Engineering and Design Department proactively coordinated with companies in the textile, electromechanical, and transportation sectors ahead of this job fair, which attracted 70 reputable employers from inside and outside the province, offering over 2,000 job openings.

At the job fair, students actively engaged with recruiters, with one employer’s booth drawing a long line of students saying things like, “Hello, here’s my resume,” and “How long does the internship last before a permanent position?” Zheng Zhiwei, a human resources manager from Yanfeng Ningde Seat Systems Co., remarked on the caliber of students from the college, stating, “Our company has hired over 20 students from this department last year, and several have already been promoted to team leader positions.”

Tang Jiaqin, a student from the CNC Class of 2022, expressed confidence about his professional future, saying, “I have learned many practical skills at school that enable me to quickly adapt to the demands of the workplace. After discussions at the fair, I’ve already reached a preliminary agreement with a company I am interested in.”

The job fair was co-hosted by Sanming Medical Technology Vocational College, the Sanming Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, the Sanming Federation of Trade Unions, the Sanyuan District Federation of Trade Unions, and the college’s Work Committee for the Elderly. Wei Zhen, vice-chairman of the Sanyuan District Federation of Trade Unions, noted, “Vocational education acts as a bridge between education and industry, and its development is vital for the socio-economic progress of the locality.” He highlighted that the aim of the fair is to connect educational institutions with businesses, thereby providing students with more employment opportunities and enhancing the high-quality development of local vocational education.

President Xiang concluded by stating that the college will continue to improve its teaching quality and tailor its training programs to meet the needs of industries and businesses. He affirmed that the institution will use this job fair as an opportunity to better connect talent supply with demand, ultimately enhancing the role of vocational education in supporting the economic and social development of Fujian.
